MCACN 2016 Sneak Peek*
1967 Shelby GT-500;
The Prison Car
2016 Cars of Carroll Shelby
Invitational
Owner; Lowell Otter, Michigan
Many call Chuck Cantwell
“The Father of the GT350” but that is just the tip of the
iceberg. You see, in addition to being the guy that truly deserves
that title, he is also a whole lot more. In addition to being a
project engineer for the GT350 program, he was also the driving force
behind the design and production of the street and track-attacking R
model. He also spent some time as a GT350R test driver and is an avid
SCCA racer. “That became the fun part of my job,” he said in
a recent interview with Automobile magazine, which you can read
here. In
addition, he explained “The object of the GT350 program was to
beat the Corvettes in SCCA racing. So we had to first get a car the
SCCA would accept as a sports car.” And that is exactly what they
did. We are truly honored to have Mr. Cantwell joining us for our Cars
of Carroll Shelby Invitational display both
Saturday and
Sunday.
So in addition to
hosting the very first 427 Cobra, early GT350’s and what many
consider the best GT350R, one of the four 1966 GT350 convertibles, the
one and only surviving unrestored original GT40 Roadster Prototype, a
Fuel Injected 1969 Shelby GT350, and the one and only 1967 GT-500
convertible, you’ll be able to see a full row on the right of
Cobra’s and GT40’s along with the row of GT350’s and GT-500’s on the
left. Many of these are one-offs and several are prototypes. And we
have the first 1969 GT-500 convertible that will be unveiled
after an extensive and research filled restoration along with an
amazing collection of one-off and unique parts and some very special
guests. And that’s also just the tip of the iceberg. Oh yeah...another
neat thing; see that GT-500 shown above? The owner of this car,
commonly referred to as “The Prison Car” in Shelby circles, tells us
that it is yet
another car that Mr. Cantwell spent some time in that you will see.
Mr. Cantwell will be in our Cars of Carroll Shelby Invitational
display, appearing both
Saturday and
Sunday.
LIVE MUSIC AT
MCACN!
We love music and we love keeping the show fun and
interesting. This year we have live music both
Saturday and
Sunday.
SATURDAY;
Boys and Toys will
bring their high energy show to us
Saturday kicking off at
6:15 pm for several sets. They have an
awesome blend of tunes that span several decades and they know how to
put on a fun show. After walking the aisles of great cars, please plan
on taking a break and watching these guys in the Awards/Ballroom area.
Don’t be surprised if you get the urge to do a little dancing!
SUNDAY; You know we like to
keep things interesting, unexpected and fun, right?
On Sunday before our awards
presentation, we will host a lovely young lady from the Detroit area.
I have been following Carmel Liburdi for several years now. She is a
truly outstanding singer/songwriter with what some may call a “quirky”
style. She is an awesome performer, lots of fun and I can assure you
that you have never seen or heard anyone like her. Carmel has produced
several cool CD’s and she will be performing at
2:30 pm
Sunday, right before our awards
presentation on our Awards/Seminar stage. Everyone is welcome! To
see a preview of Carmels work,

SOLD OUT...AS
IN FULL! Yes...all area’s of the show are now
completely full, (sold-out) with the possible exception of the
standard Car For Sale area, which may have a few remaining spots. We
have standby lists for cars and automotive vendors, but to be honest,
we don’t usually get very many cancellations. This may be our best
show to date, so please plan on joining us and wear comfortable shoes.
I also highly recommend coming both days, as there is a a
whole lot to see!
