2017 SEASON KICKS
INTO HIGH GEAR WITH MECUM AUCTION IN KISSIMMEE
2016 was certainly a memorable year for many reasons. For the MCACN team, we enjoyed our best show to date, thanks to you. We set an all time record for attendance, and the overall quality and diversity of the vehicles on display was off the hook.
So before we announce what we have in store for you this year, let’s talk about the kick-off to the collector car season. Everyone knows that January is all about the auctions and there sure are plenty of them. This week the action kicks into high gear with the huge Mecum Kissimmee, Florida auction.
“Where the Cars Are” is the theme, and if its Muscle you want, you don’t want to miss this one. With well over 3,000(!) lots being offered over nine days, if you can’t find it here, you aren’t looking hard enough. Of course, you’ll see some past MCACN cars crossing the block, including prime cars from long time MCACN supporter/participant Tom Lembeck. Remember the Spring Green 426 Hemi Daytona or the Black/Blue interior 440+6 ‘70 ‘cuda convertible? And speaking of MCACN participant/supporters, our good friend Gary Runyon is offering prime muscle cars, drag cars and even some trucks from his truly best of the best collection. Tim and Pam Wellborn were so pleased with what Dana Mecum did for them a few years ago, (remember those record setting sales?) that they decided to offer up some prime muscle from their always changing collection again. And if you are a Drag Race enthusiast, Don Fezell is offering what may be the finest collection of fully documented and incredibly historical drag cars, along with prime muscle, again, as seen at MCACN. And what may be the best collection of ultra rare parts ever to cross an auction block is on deck. Yes, those are bold statements, but have you ever seen N.O.S. Z-11 parts? Covering G.M. Ford and Mopar, Don is offering complete engines, incredibly rare parts and sheet metal and much more. What is being offered is certainly a once in a lifetime opportunity.
This is just a small sampling of what the Mecum team have lined up. Nine full days of auction action kick off Friday, January 6, at 8 am and will continue to Saturday, January 15. And don’t forget, if you aren’t able to head to Florida in person, you can bid online or watch the action in real time by registering through the cool Mecum Infonet system. If you haven’t done this yet, do it now as it is free to register and it really keeps you in the loop. And of course, NBC Sports is covering many hours of the auction. We are honored to have Mecum Auctions as our Official Title Sponsor and wish Dana and his team the best of luck, not only this month, but throughout the year. I have no doubt that we will see records set and plenty of happy buyers and sellers this year, as our hobby is clearly geared up for plenty of fun and excitement. It is a great time to be a part of this and to quote my friend Lance Miller, Life is Good!
In the coming weeks we will be announcing our 2017 Invitational and Special displays. Several have been in the works for many years and will allow us to continue to produce a show unlike any other. Registration is now open and as always, we are looking for the best of the best, the rarest of the rare and of course, cars with interesting history, especially those that are rarely, if ever, shown. If you have a car that you would like to show with us, please e-mail me at bashton426@gmail.com. If you have an idea for a display or would like to help us coordinate something special, please let me know. Your thoughts, feedback and suggestions are always welcomed.
The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals is the world’s largest all indoor specialty show devoted to Muscle Cars, Dealer-built Supercars and the finest and rarest Corvettes. We will again host over 500 of the best of the best of the best, filling nearly 400,000 square feet of the beautiful Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (suburban Chicago) Illinois. As always, our show will take place the weekend before Thanksgiving, which is November 18-19, 2017. Title Sponsor; Mecum Auctions. Presenting Sponsor; Bill Stasek Chevrolet.

OK...so if you are a
Mopar fan, perhaps the overall dollar value of the Mopars wasn’t as
high as in 2015, but nobody can deny the fact that the Mopars that
were in attendance were incredible. Multiple wing cars, Hemi’s,
440+6’s, 383’s, 340’s and even prime A and C-bodies took the
spotlight. And have you ever seen as many factory sunroof equipped
Mopars in one place?

General Motors fans saw the “hot ones” including the one and only red on red ‘69 ZL1 Camaro, several LS6’s including John Hills red on red LS6 Chevelle convertible that was unveiled Saturday morning, and speaking of Official Unveilings, how about the “lost” Trans Am Convertible and the 1 of 8 Ram Air II ‘68 Firebird convertible, (a car that is as rare as the Trans Am convert), that Rick Mahoney pulled the covers off of; can it get any better?

Well...Ford fans would say YES! Our Cars of Carroll Shelby Invitational raised the bar with some of the absolute rarest creations that ever left Shelby American headquarters. Several prototypes, a row of Cobra’s and several firsts and lasts were lined up, and the incredible GT40 Roadster Prototype and special guest Chuck Cantwell certainly set the tone. And then we had the incredible display of Boss 351’s and the Torino’s, Fairlanes and Cyclones. Hopefully you had a chance to meet Bobby Unser and check out his Pike Peak record setting Boss 429 powered Torino from The Brothers Collection! What a great car and what a gentleman. We also launched our Shelby and Mustang Pinnacle Award and judging program, assuring that the best of the best from the Shelby and Mustang world will continue to join us in the future. And what about those Studebakers? Yes, our friends from South Bend stepped up, once again proving that you never know what you will see at MCACN. And that is just a small sampling of what we did for our 2016 show.
The national media again joined us in full force from across the country and even outside of our country, and the online features are plentiful. (check out facebook and youtube; search mcacn). And be sure to watch your newsstands, as full features will be hitting the stands real soon, and you just might find your own car in there!
