This Weekend!
Oldsmobile Homecoming Returns to
Lansing,
30th Annual EyesOn Design & Mecum
Portland Auction
One of my favorite events of the year
is the annual
Oldsmobile Homecoming
car show and swap meet in Lansing,
Michigan. Always held the Saturday
before Fathers Day, this is the
world’s largest one-day all Oldsmobile
car show. This year they are moving to
a new larger facility that is super
nice. The event will take place
Saturday, June 17, from 9 am – 3 pm.
The MCACN Crew will be set up in the swap area to
spread the word about the upcoming
Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals
show, so c’mon by and see what we’re
up to.
The show will take place at the Auto
Owners Insurance Complex at 6101
Anacapri Blvd. in Lansing, Michigan.
They are featuring the 50th
Anniversary of the 1967 model year, so
needless to say, we’ll be searching
for some prime 67’s for our Class of
‘67 Invitational display, along with
other years of prime Oldsmobile
muscle. For the full scoop on this
must do event, go to
http://www.reolds.org/homecoming.htm
And speaking of Olds muscle, we will
be hosting the Premier Unveilings of
TWO this year. First, the 1971 442 W30
convertible that you saw last year in
our Barn Find & Hidden Gems area will
be shown by Jeff and JoHanna Stolowski,
looking like it just rolled off the
showroom floor. MCACN Official Sponsor
Magnum Auto Restoration, Inc.
has been hard at work on this car since right
after last years show, and it is looking truly
outstanding. Over in Colorado, Gary Riley and
his team are working on the 1969 Hurst/Olds
Prototype. You may have seen this car in
various books and magazines over the years. It
has a wild larger rear spoiler and a wide
variety of one-off features inside and out.
And YES...it is the real-deal with full
history and documentation, and it is another prime example of American Muscle from The
Brothers Collection that you will see unveiled Saturday morning, November 18.
Another notable event that takes place
this weekend is the prestigious
EyesOn
Design show on Fathers Day, June 18.
This event is much more than a car
show, as they always have an
exceptionally diversified group of
cars along with vintage motorcycles
and this year, a stellar group of
tractors. Held on the grounds of the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse
Pointe Shores, Michigan, it is a
perfect way to spend some quality time
with Dad and the family on Fathers Day
in a beautiful setting. For full
information on this great event, go to
www.eyesondesign.org.
Of course we can't forget the
Mecum Portland Auction
June 16-17 this year. Over 600 cars will be
offered in the Portland Expo Center this week.
Portland is known for its parks, bridges and
bicycle paths, as well as for its
eco-friendliness and its microbreweries and
coffeehouses. Iconic Washington Park
encompasses sites from the formal Japanese
Garden to Oregon Zoo and its railway. The city
hosts thriving art, theater and music scenes.
Don't miss the chance to see this beautiful
city and the chance to see 600 awesome cars
cross the block. All Buyers, Sellers and
Spectators are welcome.
Well, it’s the time of year to get out
there and enjoy the cars and more
importantly, the great people of our
hobby. Being Fathers Day weekend and
being a Dad myself, (and Granddad!), I
encourage everyone to make a point of
spending some quality time with your
family. And if you are also a Dad
and/or Granddad, consider showing some
younger folks how much fun we can
have, sharing memories and making new
memories with some car people. Why?
because we’re the coolest ones out
there and we know how to have a good
time!
Looking forward to seeing you out
there.
The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals
is the world’s largest all indoor
specialty show devoted to Muscle Cars,
Dealer-built Supercars and the finest
and rarest Corvettes. We will again
fill nearly 400,000 square feet of
exhibit space in the beautiful Donald
E. Stephens Convention Center in
Rosemont, (suburban Chicago),
Illinois, just minutes from Chicago’s
O’Hare Airport. We work hard all year
long to bring you the best and
freshest show in the nation and look
forward to having you join us whether
you are showing a car, showcasing your
automotive products or services or as
an all important spectator. Plan on
joining is Saturday, November 18 and
Sunday, November 19 and be sure to
wear comfortable shoes.
Next week; we’re off to The Granddaddy
of Corvette Shows,
Bloomington Gold.
