Maximum Muscle Invades Concours d’ Elegance of America THIS SUNDAY

When it comes to prestigious Concours events, the Concours d’Elegance of America is among the best in the world. There is Pebble Beach, (which we are often compared to!), the Amelia Island Concours and then the Concours d’ Elegance of America here in the Detroit area, formerly known as The Meadowbrook Concours. This will be the 39th year for this event, and I joined the team several years ago. Here is what they say about this outstanding weekend of events;

"In keeping with our tradition of showcasing classic, rare and magnificent automobiles, the car selection committee continues to invite a unique collection of vehicles to be displayed. What was once a one day show is now an esteemed lifestyle event with many activities throughout the weekend. Including the Concours Invitational Art Exhibition featuring fine automotive artists from around the world and the Mode du Concours fashions compliments of Productions Plus. Of course it all culminates in the beautiful show on Sunday, July 30, held on the immaculate grounds of the Inn at St. John in Plymouth, Michigan."

The Inn at St. John’s is a facility rich with history and beauty. Its story begins in the late 1940s when St. John’s Provincial Seminary opened its doors. In 1955, its remarkable chapel was dedicated. The seminary continued to serve the Catholic Archdiocese of Detroit until 1988, when it closed. The property remained dormant until 1994, when Cardinal Adam J. Maida brought to life a vision of reviving the property as a resource for diocesan youth and families. His vision became reality when, in 1996, St. John’s Center for Youth & Family opened on the South side of the property. The Inn is worth seeing even if there weren’t 300 outstanding cars on the grounds, but adding that to the mix makes it an absolute Must Do event. So how does this tie in to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals? Well, each year I personally assemble a group of the best of the best in the Muscle Car world. This year my theme is Maximum Muscle, and this group tells quite a story. Of course, nearly all of the cars in this group have been shown at MCACN, and the ones that have not will be shown with us this year. Starting with 1963, we have Rich Guminski with his 13.5:1 Max Wedge Plymouth, then Steve Whittakers award winning 64 GTO. Of course we have to have a Z16 Chevelle, so Patrick Biase is joining us from Virginia. Gotta have a Shelby, so what could be better than the first big block, aka “The Prison Car” GT500 owned by Lowell Otter that you saw in our Cars of Carroll Shelby Invitational last year? And then you know we have to have some 426 Hemi’s in the mix, so be sure to check out Patrick O’Leary’s Roadrunner and The Brothers Collection Charger! And don’t think for a minute that I would overlook the wild lift-off hood M-Code cars, because we have the Kultgens joining us from Wisconsin with their 440+6 Super Bee. Boss 429? You bet and it’s a good one, as unveiled with us by Tom Marcucci. And what kind of display would this be if we didn’t include the mighty 1969 427 ZL1 Camaro? Thanks go out to Mark Hassett from Ohio, who joining us with his, certainly one of the best. But then if you are wondering if AMC will be represented, the answer is YES, and in a BIG way, since Wayne Schmeeckle is coming in from Colorado with his very real, very wild Super Stock AMX. OK...so if your heart isn’t pumping yet, let me add Mark Weymouth’s LS6 Chevelle, Dr. Ajesh Parikhs’s Stage 1 GSX, Mark Davinroy’s 442 W30 convertible and one that is being shown for the very first time, direct from a full restoration from our good friend Ken Nagel, and its another rare one; a Ram Air IV GTO convertible! Whew...what a lineup. But I’m not done. To put the cherry on top, we have the beautiful sunroof equipped 1973 Super Duty Trans Am you saw in our Factory Sunroof cars Invitational last year, creating ten years of truly Maximum Muscle.

And that is just “my” section. We also have a full row of 100% real Cobra’s, a prime group of non Flip-top funny cars including Clark Rand’s UFO Plymouth that you’ll see at MCACN in November, a stellar group of Rolls Royce Silver Ghosts and of course, Duesenbergs, Packards, Ferrari’s and everything you would expect to see, but rarely get the opportunity. This show is truly art on wheels and a celebration of rarity, beauty and so much more.

We will have a display booth in the midway promoting the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, so please plan on joining us and stopping by to see what we have in store for MCACN 2017.

My “Hit List” is getting smaller! Nearly everything I set out to find this year is joining us, but there are a few more that I am still searching for. If you have a truly special 1st Generation Firebird, a 1972 performance Mopar, Ford or Mercury, a 1967 L88 Corvette, a ‘72 G.S. Stage 1 or Olds W30, a Mercury Cougar or Cyclone, an outstanding AMC or an appropriate Barn Find or Hidden Gem, please consider joining us. If you have something else that is an example of American Muscle or is a prime C1/C2 or C3 Corvette, let’s hear about it. We have some openings, but many categories are already full. We are committed to presenting a balanced and fresh show, so don’t hesitate to let us know what you would like to show.

The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals has been called “The center of the muscle car universe” by Muscle Car Review magazine. We will again host over 500 of the best and rarest Muscle Cars, Dealer-built Supercars and Corvettes along with a wide variety of automotive related vendors and restorers. We will fill nearly 400,000 square feet of all indoor exhibit space at the beautiful Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (suburban Chicago), Illinois, just minutes from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. The show takes place Saturday, November 18, from 9 am – 9 pm and Sunday, November 19, from 9 am – 5 pm.
