We Welcome the Jesel Brothers to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals
Keeping things fun, unexpected and interesting is what we are all about at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals. And when we get the chance to host some guys that played (and play!) a key role in our hobby, we are all over it. This year we have some very special guests joining us with some incredibly cool cars.
If you read Car Craft magazine, you surely caught the recent feature on the Yoo Hoo Too ‘56 Chevy Junior Stocker wagon that our good friend Geoff Stunkard wrote about. This car is a re-creation of the car that Wayne Jesel built back in the 60’s that took the Junior Stock class to a new level. “Junior Stock was the place for the little guys in the heyday of the mid 1960’s, and while the costs of everything has gone up since, few who have seen this sedan delivery tribute would disagree that Wayne Jesel’s Yoo Hoo Too is breathtaking in its execution” Stunkard says in the feature. By researching the rules, the Jesels were able to get their ‘56 categorized as a truck, (it is a Sedan Delivery) which opened up all kinds of opportunities. Seriously...you need to hear the whole story from the source!
Now it is true that we don’t often feature tributes or clones at our show, but this one is an exception. You see, the Jesel name goes way back when it comes to racing and so much more. We all know the name well and I am pleased to say Wayne and his brother are still having fun. Wayne built the original with his brother Danny and his former partner Tony Massari. The Jesel brothers raced successfully in NHRA Modified and Competition eliminator as well as Stock, and then followed up by launching an extremely successful valve train manufacturing company, Jesel Valvetrain Innovations. Being around guys like Jere Stahl and Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins can certainly keep that fire burning! Wayne and Danny Jesel were also recently inducted into the East Coast Drag Times Hall of Fame, and they had the new Yoo Hoo Too on display there as well.
Wayne had thought about re-creating his ‘56 for quite some time since the original car, in his own words “vaporized” years ago. When he finally found a nice clean unrestored delivery to start with in North Carolina, he was all in to do it right. Although the car was not for sale, Wayne was able to work a trade with his ‘32 Ford street rod. With an eye toward being as period correct as possible, numerous vintage parts were gathered up, and help from some key players was called in, including several that were involved in racing the original. Even the guy who did the original lettering was brought back to replicate his work from 1966! This car will take you back in time, and with Wayne and Danny joining us at the show, you’ll be able to relive those memories and hear the stories right from the source.
But wait...it gets even better! After talking to Wayne, we found out that brother Danny had something special in his garage also. Danny will be bringing in his 1958 Chevy Del Ray. Now this isn’t just any ‘58; it is a factory 283 fuel injected 4-speed, radio and heater delete car! Woo-Hoo...what a car! This one has been restored to its original glory and you’ll find it right behind Wayne’s Yoo Hoo Too. Now that’s a pair of Bow Ties!
Special thanks go out to the Jesel Brothers and also to Zach Straits who introduced us to the Jesel’s. Once again we are able to add another chapter to the history of our awesome hobby. Make a point of meeting Wayne, Danny and Zach at the show, Saturday and Sunday.
