*2018 Sneak Peek 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400 MCACN 2018 Class of '68 Eric Schellinger of Schellinger Custom Guitars Named MCACN 2018 Official Featured Artist Last year we introduced you to Eric Schellinger, Master Luthier, who created a series of custom made guitars that matched many of the cars that were on display at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show. Right up front was one of my favorites, created to match Dave and Kelly Molnars 69.5 Super Bee that was the first car unveiled last year. This awesome one-off creation nailed it, both color matched and featuring that familiar Bee engraved into the top. Allow us to have Eric explain; “My dad, Monroe Schellinger III, came up with the design style of the MSIII traditional electric guitar. Dad – MS III – was a musician. We built custom guitars together for professional musicians. His interest in music rubbed off on my brothers and me! When I was in a rock band with my brothers and friends, we’d sometimes have the honor of Dad joining us on stage for a song or two with the band. Those were the days! Unfortunately, Dad passed in 2002. A few years ago, while helping my mom reorganize closets, I stumbled across the original guitar body my Dad and I built when I was about 22. That led me to complete the building of the original “MS III.” Original Car – Themed Electric guitar. Modeled after a 1996 Corvette Grand Sport Later the same year, I attended the Muscle Cars & Corvette Nationals Show in Rosemont, IL. On display with some of the cars, they had guitars painted the same body colors as the cars they were paired with. Since I had a renewed interest – passion, really – for making semi-hollow body custom electric guitars I came up with a great idea. I could create guitars and add the cars theme to them!” And the rest, as we say, is history! Eric is not only an incredible artist, but also a real “car guy” with a passion for Corvettes. He has earned MCACN Triple Diamond status with his own Grand Sport and has been actively involved in our hobby since he was a kid. His brother Doug is the owner of the Ramo Stott Superbird that you have seen at MCACN, and the family has owned quite a few notable cars over the years. We love to put the spotlight on creative artists, and we are honored to do something a bit different this year. Eric will have a full display of his creations that will be available for purchase, and he will also be giving one of them away in a FREE raffle for our spectators and participants. Make a point of stopping by to meet Eric and try one out. He is also accepting pre-orders, so if you would like to have your very own American made one-off custom guitar, let him know!
