Pedal Powered Muscle: All About FUN and Memories!

Those who know me know that I am a Muscle Bicycle freak. When I first saw that ad for the new Schwinn Orange Krate in my Boys Life magazine back in 1968, it was all over. This is a memory many of us have. While I didn't get the coveted Orange Krate for my birthday, I did get a shiny Flamboyant Blue Sting Ray Deluxe! Fast forward, and after many visits to local garage sales, I quickly became an official collector of these dragster inspired pedal powered bikes. After accumulating 6-8 of them, (but no Krates!) I found out that just a few miles from my home here in the Detroit area, the largest bicycle show and swap meet in the world took place every April. A friend described it; "imagine Carlisle, but with all bikes!". I honestly had no idea anything like this existed, but wow...he wasn't kidding! This was over 30 years ago...

This annual tradition will take place Sunday, May 7th. While the event moved last year from its long-time home in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the new home in Monroe, Michigan is perfect and actually, even better. The Monroe County Fairgrounds has several buildings and huge grounds with paved walkways. You will see literally hundreds of vendors selling all kinds of bikes and bike parts. Of course, our focus is always on the 60's and 70's Muscle Bikes, and so we will have a display inside the Expo building to spread the word about our own Muscle Bike "Show Within the Show" Presented by Koolestuff. For directions to the Monroe Bicycle show and more information, go to www.monroebikeshow.com.

We love being able to have this special feature at the MCACN show, where memories are shared and so many stories are told. You will see all kinds of pedal powered Muscle Bikes from Schwinn, Raleigh, Ross, Sears, Huffy, Iverson and so many others. Sting Rays, Krates, Choppers, Spyders and more. This is designed to be a fun area, with no judging or competition. Some bikes are shiny and restored while some have been rode hard and put up wet! We welcome them all and love seeing what comes out of the woodwork every year!

And speaking of Koolestuff, Our Official Sponsor for both the Muscle Bicycle and our Mini-Bike displays, they will again have a nice big display of their Schwinn licensed bike parts, some prime bikes and more at both the MCACN show and at the Monroe show this Sunday. Make a point of talking to Gary and his crew to get the latest information and see what he has to offer. He truly deals only in the best of the best! For more information, check out www.koolestuff.com. And if you can't make it to Monroe this week, Gary has several prime Krates and an ultra-rare '63 Sting Ray hitting the Mecum Auction block in Indy. You can check them out here:

The Book: In Search of the WINGED Holy Grail: Thanks to all who ordered the new book. The response has been, well...somewhat overwhelming with well over half of the print run already shipped! With a run of just 503 books, don't hesitate if you didn't order yours already. To order yours now, click here:  I can also hand deliver to the bike show Sunday or to Mecum Indy.

A Few More Cars we'd like to see in the MCACN show in November: Thanks to all who have responded to our request for specific cars. We are checking them off the list! Allow me to throw out a few more requests. How about some more Big Body Big Blocks, (especially 4-speeds!) as these are always a hit, performance oriented El Caminos and Rancheros of any year, Mercury Cougars, Montegos and of course, Cyclones and as always, American Factory Muscle that is rarely (if ever!) shown. We always work hard to present a fresh and exciting show, so if you have something cool and muscular, whether fully restored or a "Barn Find" , let's hear about it. Send pictures and information for Pre-qualification to bashton426@gmail.comFull Disclosure; we ARE very selective, meaning a check and an application does not guarantee acceptance.

Our Hobby is operating at Fever Pitch and we are honored to be immersed right in the middle of it in so many ways. Thanks to all for the continued support and please help us spread the word by telling anyone that may be interested about us, and please share our facebook, twitter and instagram posts!

Hope to see you at the bike show or Dana Mecums Spring Classic in Indy!
