Bloomington Gold, Mecum Auctions and Some VERY Special People

We often talk about how awesome it is to work with some truly outstanding people. Among them is our Title Sponsor, Mecum Auctions and our good friends Guy and Jocelyn Larsen, Owners of Bloomington Gold. It is always a real pleasure working with them, whether it is at the MCACN show, one of the great auctions or at Bloomington Gold. These folks are truly passionate about our hobby and they are also extremely generous. With that being said, we'd like to talk about a really neat opportunity, and add a bit of "behind the scenes" information.

While all of these people are well known among Corvette enthusiasts, there are also quite a few that we deal with that are equally as passionate and generous, but aren't interested in being in the spotlight. Well, Dave and Cindi Goss will have to accept my apology because this is a story that needs to be told.

Dave and Cindi have been huge supporters of the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show for years, showing cars and we even recruited Dave to do some judging. They have shown numerous Corvette Central Triple Diamond award winning Corvettes, some neat Oldsmobiles and a pair of amazing unrestored originals; a Plum Crazy Challenger R/T-SE and last year, a beautiful Boss 302 Mustang in our Vintage Certification area. They always put the spotlight on the cars and love to share the stories and history, but it has never been about them.

When we launched our Military Appreciation Invitational, Presented by The Kultgen Family, Dave was one of the first to sign up as he is a veteran, showing one of his Corvettes. He expressed sincere appreciation to us for recognizing some often forgotten active and retired members of the Military, and needless to say, we are honored to be able to do it. Of course, this will be among the annual special displays, and again, we thank the Kultgen Family for being the Official Sponsor.

So how does this relate to a Corvette being auctioned off? Allow me to explain. Dave and Cindi wanted to do something for a very worthy cause. The Semper Fi & America's Fund cares for our nation's critically wounded, ill and injured service members, veterans and military families. Supporting ALL branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, they provide one-on-one case management, connections and lifetime support. Today. Tomorrow. Together. They have been awarded the highest charity ratings among Veteran  Non-Profits, and it is run by military spouses and former military members. To learn more about them, go to TheFund.org.

So Dave and Cindi went out and bought a really nice 2002 Corvette Z06 and they had a plan. Calls were made, first to Dave's good friend Guy Larsen. They teamed up, joined forces with Mecum Auctions and this car will be auctioned off at Dana Mecums Original Spring Classic Auction Thursday, May 16, in Indianapolis. 100% of the auction proceeds will go directly to the Semper Fi & Americas' Fund. How's that for passion and generosity? It is really amazing what can be done when you gather up the right people!

Here is the description of the car direct from the Mecum Auctions website: Offered at no reserve, this 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has been donated by the seller with proceeds to benefit the Semper Fi and America’s Fund. Created by a compassionate group of military spouses, Semper Fi and America's Fund care for the United States’ critically wounded, ill and injured service members, veterans and military families. Finished in Quicksilver over a black and red interior, this all-out Z06 is of course powered by a 5.7L V-8 engine that is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission driving a 3.42:1 performance rear axle. Renowned handling is delivered by the FE4 suspension system. Other features and amenities include the Z06 Memory Package, Bose AM/FM/CD stereo system, dual-zone air conditioning, fighter jet-style head-up display and electrochromic mirrors.

So, while Dave and Cindi have done their best to remain behind the scenes and somewhat anonymous, we are here to salute them. What an incredible show of generosity and a reminder of the fact that there really are some truly awesome people out there. We feel both honored and humbled by their kindness and want to help in any way we can to get the word out there. Of course, we ask anyone who may be interested in obtaining a cool Z06 Corvette to plan on heading to Indy! This is your chance to score a great car and to help out a fantastic cause.

A note to Dave and Cindi: while you guys made it clear that you don't want any credit or attention, I feel that this really deserves some recognition and hopefully, will encourage others to join in to help with your support of a truly worthy cause.

And one more thing; The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals will again host a Military Appreciation Invitational display, Presented by The Kultgen Family. This display is for past or present members of our Armed Forces who would like to show a cool collectible car of any make. Allow us all to show some appreciation for your service. If you would like to be a part of this, please send pictures and information to bashton426@gmail.com.

As always, we will again have our Military Appreciation Day, Sunday, November 24, when we allow any active or retired members of any branch of the Military to join us with FREE admission with appropriate Military I.D.
