MUSCLE AND CORVETTE MANIA AT FEVER PITCH!

For those of us into the car hobby, after the holidays we all shift gears into car mode. Well...for me, it never stops, but for most normal car people, anyway! With the variety of auctions in Arizona and the huge Mecum Kissimmee auction in Florida, all eyes are on the cars that we all love, whether we are in the buying or selling mood. And to say the excitement level is high is a major understatement. Out in AZ, I witnessed some pretty stellar sales, and I even drove a ZL1 Camaro that was previously shown at MCACN across the block, where it was hammered sold! (Thanks Stefano!) http://www.mcacn.com/images/zl1atauction.jpg

One of the coolest aspects of the auctions for me this year was seeing and hearing all the references to the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show. It is clear that in a short span of time, we have clearly established the credibility of our awards and judging. For this, we thank our elite judging team, led by Judging Supervisor Bill Braun, and our Vintage Certification* team, led by Steve Shauger. http://www.mcacn.com/images/amanteatd.jpg
I saw numerous display boards showcasing our certificates and Gold Concours, Concour Day 2 and Corvette Central Triple Diamond crystal awards were proudly on display beside more cars than I can count. Since credibility and provenance is so important when buying or selling a collector car, we encourage those of you considering selling to think about having your car judged at MCACN. And even if you aren’t planning on selling, having your car judged by the finest judges in the hobby, regardless of what make or model you own, is not only a wise investment, but can be extremely educational. Something to think about....

INVITATIONAL DISPLAY UPDATES

We are already hard at work putting together our Invitational and Special displays for MCACN VII, which will take place Saturday, November 21, and Sunday, November 22. Our Mopar 426 Hemi E-Body Convertible display will be, in a word, mind-blowing. (OK...that’s two words!). I was able to confirm some very unexpected things while in AZ, and at this time, we have close to TWENTY 1970 and ‘71 426 Hemi ‘Cuda convertibles and 1970 426 Hemi Challenger R/T Convertibles confirmed. This display will be sponsored by The Brothers Collection and Yenko.net, so stay tuned for updates. I can assure you, this alone will justify the trip to suburban Chicago! (In case you are wondering, again, this display will feature only real-deal, highly documented and very real examples, absolutely no clones, tributes or questionable cars).

For our Chevy enthusiasts, Our “Class of 1965” will have a “show within the show” featuring the 396 Z16 Chevelles, (only 201 were built!) while our “Class of ‘70” will have an entire lineup of the finest and rarest Buick Stage 1, 4-speed convertibles. Yep...we are taking things to the next level with this one by featuring all 4-speed convertibles, certainly among the rarest and most desirable examples of Buick muscle ever built. As of this writing, we have seven of them locked in!

Another Invitational display this year is for 454/450 horsepower LS6’s, hosted by Chevelle aficionado’s Chris White and Rick Nelson. We already have several LS6 convertibles confirmed and it looks like we may just have all of the available colors on display, along with some very notable race cars. And of course, our Corvette Central Triple Diamond Corvette display and competition, one of our most popular features of the show, returns with an entirely new lineup of C1, C2, C3 and C4 Corvettes chronicling the history of the Corvette. These are truly the best of the best, and we look forward to hosting one of our largest gatherings ever of these prime examples of America’s favorite sports car.

Additional special displays are in the works and we’ll be talking about them in the upcoming weeks. If you have an idea and would like to help us coordinate something special, please let me know, bashton426@gmail.com. Remember...all of our Invitational and Special displays are for real documented examples only, and absolutely no “clones” or “tributes” are allowed. If you have a candidate for one of our displays, please contact me at bashton426@gmail.com.

NATIONAL MAGAZINE COVERAGE

Awards are indeed great, but there may be nothing cooler than seeing your car in print. I may be “old school” but I still enjoy flipping through the pages of my favorite car mags! We have some great features coming up, so watch the upcoming issues of Muscle Car Review, Mustang Monthly, Mopar Collectors Guide, Car Craft, V8 Passion, Hemmings Muscle Machines and Mopar Action to name a few. Better yet...if you haven’t already, show your support for those that support what we do by subscribing! To quote Drew Hardin, Editor of Muscle Car Review in the recent February issue; “This years show was so big, in fact, that we will split our coverage among two issues, starting next month.” Whew...now that is exciting!
