Celebrating Anniversaries and Much More

Now that the holidays and first round of major auctions are behind us, it is time to dive in head first with preparations for the 2017 edition of the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show. Coming off of our most successful event of our nearly nine year history, we would like to say THANKS to all of our participants, Official Sponsors, awesome team members and of course, our spectators that allow us to produce what has become known as the Super Bowl of the Muscle Car and Corvette world. We again played host to well over 500 of the finest, rarest and downright coolest cars, sold out each and every car and commercial space well in advance, and enjoyed our largest spectator gate ever. Whew!

Drum roll please...and with that being said, today we would like to announce our first round of Invitational and Special displays. This is a huge year for Anniversaries and we plan on pulling out all the stops. The up front and center Invitational display will spotlight the
50th Anniversary of the First Generation Firebirds and Camaro’s. Covering the years of 1967-1969, you will see 13 of the most significant first gen Firebirds on the right, with 13 equally as significant first gen Camaro’s on the left. Ram Air II and IV convertibles, very special Trans Ams and more on the right. Over on the Camaro side, COPO and ZL1’s will join the best Nickey, Bill Thomas and Yenko Day 2 cars along with racers and even a concept car. And you will see some familiar names too; think Penske and Harrell to name few! Each and every car in this grouping is real, incredibly important, and in many cases, one off.

Class of 1962, 1967 and ‘72 Anniversary displays. As I mentioned, this is a huge year for Anniversaries! Think about it; 1962 brought forth some incredible drag race influenced cars like the first Z-11 Impala’s and Super Duty Pontiacs, 426 Max Wedges were tearing up the strip and Pontiac introduced the Grand Prix. Ford and Mercury offered some great cars packed with big cubic inch engines with multiple carbs. In 1967 we saw the introduction of the WO and RO Hemi Mopars, the previously mentioned Camaro and Firebird that quite honestly, changed the entire market, the new GTX and the Coronet R/T, the all new personal luxury Mercury Cougar and more. Suffice it to say ‘67 was a great year for muscle. And what about the L/88 Corvettes and even the 427/435 cars? Just imagine going down to your local (insert your favorite make) dealership with your checkbook and ordering up something special! And then we have 1972. Although the writing was on the wall, those in the know could still order up a 440+6 barrel Mopar, a 396 Camaro, a Stage 1 455 Buick. a 455 W-30 Olds or a 455 H/O Pontiac or a big block Corvette to name a few! Gas prices and insurance regulations be damned...

Corvette Legends Invitational; And speaking of Corvettes, Dr. Pete Gimenez returns with an all new theme for our Corvette Legends Invitational. Yes, 1967 saw the introduction of the L/88 427 as an RPO, and you will see a variety of them at this years show.

Cars of Kar Kraft Invitational; Or should that be Kars? Actually, this group will also include a truck, as Kar Kraft, known as the home base for the Boss 302’s and Boss 429’s, also built other special rides, including the much modified “Boss” Bronco that you will see at our show this year. Yes, Boss 9’s and Boss 302’s will be present, including several very significant race cars. Ever heard of the Quarter Horse? This group is going to be incredible!

1967 Camaro Z/28 Invitational; This is where it all began for the performance era Camaro. Led by ‘67 Z/28 aficionado and owner of the very first ‘67 Z, recently featured in Muscle Car Review magazine, Jon Mello is a walking encyclopedia on these cars and he is joining us from California with his Z/28. Did you know there were 15 colors originally offered for the first 602 Z/28’s? We may see them all, along with some very special race cars. Emphasis on special!

Formula’s For Success; I love when someone comes to me with an idea for something different, and that is exactly what our good friend Dennis Jensen did. This group will showcase all kinds of High Performance 1970-1974 2nd Gen Firebirds of the Formula variation. RA III,s, Super Dutys and H/O’s will be featured ranging from stripped down sleepers to executive supercars loaded with options.

This is just the beginning of what we have in store for you for MCACN 2017. In the coming weeks we’ll tell you about what we have lined up for our Mopar, Studebaker and Mercury enthusiasts, along with additional special features that are in the works.

And speaking of something different...In 2016 we featured one of our “Displays within a Display” with a group of Stroppe Baja Bronco’s. The response was incredible, ranging from why are those here? to Wow, I never knew these things existed! Well, as you now know, these truly represent what a Day2 modified high performance SUV is. And as mentioned earlier, we have a Kar Kraft modified Boss Bronco confirmed for this year. With that being said, I am putting out the call for other performance oriented SUV’s. If you own a best of the best, rarest of the rare performance oriented pre-1977 Bronco, Blazer, Scout, Jeep CJ, Jeep Wagoneer/Cherokee, Dodge Ramcharger that is period correct we would love to hear from you. We understand that at this years Milwaukee Concours there will be a featured Bronco class with 12 fantastic trucks including the 1969 Mexican 1000 winning race truck. What if we were to take this idea a step further? If you own or know of any suitable performance oriented vehicles like this, please let me know! Send info and pics to bashton426@gmail.com

As always, I could go on and on, but rest assured, we are hard at work making sure we once again present an entirely new and exciting show for you. We will return to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Saturday, November 18, and Sunday, November 19, 2017. This is just a sampling of what we have in the works, and we will again fill nearly 400,000 square feet of exhibit space. If you own a prime example of American Muscle or one of the best Corvettes, please consider joining us, whether it fits one of our special displays or not. Applications are now being accepted or you can e-mail me at bashton426@gmail.com with any questions. Returning displays will include our Corvette Central Triple Diamond display and competition, the ever popular Barn Finds & Hidden Gems, our new Mustang and Shelby Pinnacle Certification program, Vintage Certification program, Sponsored by American Performance, LLC , and of course, our “Show within a Show” featuring Muscle Bicycles, Sponsored by Koolestuff.
