Day 2 Offers A Step Back In Time for MCACN Spectators and Participants

When we launched the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show nearly ten years ago, we knew there was a real void in the car show world. You see, if you own a real Yenko, Nickey or Mr. Norm’s modified car, you were relegated to the standard modified classes. These are great when it comes to judging fit and finish, but what about those who go the extra mile on true “Day 2” cars? The fact is, if you purchased a brand new ‘67 Yenko 427 Super Camaro, Don Yenko and his crew would immediately yank the original engine out and replace it with the hottest 427 they could get their hands on. In doing this, you would get hammered for “non originality” in Concours judging. Enter the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Day 2 Concours Judging.

So what is Day 2 Concours, and what makes it different? Well...let us explain! Our Day 2 uses a 1,000 point judging system, much like our standard Concours judging. The big difference is that period correct modifications are allowed. Period correct means that deviations from stock must use real vintage parts. Our specialized Day 2 Judging team, led by Dru Diesner, check part numbers and date codes, much as they do for Concours. However, modifications can be within two years of the manufacture date of the car. That means if you have a 1969 car, it can have vintage parts from 69-71. Modern parts, like radial tires on cars that were delivered with bias-ply, maintenance free batteries and modern wheels are a no-go in Day 2, but of course are welcomed in our Super Street/Modified categories. And Day 2 is not limited to the dealer-built Supercars, as we all know that almost everyone personalized their cars back in the day! The car shown above is a perfect example; the owner went above and beyond to use a wide variety of vintage parts and spent years chasing down the right pieces to create a real step back in time. You can read more about it here;

Our Day 2 Judging is a MCACN exclusive and is designed to properly acknowledge those who go above and beyond to make sure their cars are exactly as they were. With the intensity of the judging procedure, you can rest assured that any car that earns our Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Day 2 awards, whether Bronze, Silver or Gold level, has spent countless hours researching and securing the proper parts.

For those cars that are tastefully modified using modern parts, we offer our Super Street/Modified categories. This is geared toward fit and finish, and date codes and part numbers are not checked, since you can present your car in any way you see fit. This is also the best category for cars that are regularly driven, as we use much more relaxed standards for the underside and consideration for the occasional rock chip or scratch is OK. We offer Super Street awards in Blue Ribbon, Red Ribbon and White Ribbon levels.

Of course, many of you have been there and done that, and don’t need to have your car judged at all. We know that for some, just sharing the cars and their story is all you need, and eliminating the potential stress of judging makes your experience a whole lot more fun. We are totally fine with that too,and offer our Non Judged/Pick eligible category for you. This means there will be none of the standard judging, but you do have the opportunity to score one of the (nearly 100) coveted Celebrity Pick, Staff Pick, Sponsor Pick or other specialty awards. Each and every car on the show floor, whether entered for Judging or not, is eligible for these awards. Being “Pick” awards, they are exactly that; picked by the presenter for any reason they like. Maybe they like the color or perhaps they love the history and story. Yes...these are among the most coveted awards from the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, and are designed to be just plain old fun for everyone.

We hope this helps to explain what we have to offer for anyone considering showing a car with us. We do our very best to offer a variety of ways to enter so that you have the absolute best overall experience with our show. Our highest priority is offering the perfect venue for you to share your stories and the history, as when we get right down to it, that is what the MCACN show is all about! As always, we welcome your feedback and suggestions. We are now accepting applications and hope you will consider joining us as a participant or a spectator when we return to the beautiful Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (suburban Chicago), Illinois, Saturday, November 17, and Sunday, November 18. We celebrate our Tenth Anniversary this year and we will play host to over 550 cars joining us from across the country and even outside of the country. We pride ourselves in presenting the best of the best and the rarest of the rare, many from private collections never shown anywhere else and guarantee a fresh and exciting show every year.
