CONCOURS d’ELEGANCE OF AMERICA TO SPOTLIGHT PRIME MCACN MUSCLE CARS
Many of you know that I am highly involved with the Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John, formerly known as the Meadowbrook Concours in the Detroit area. For the past several years, I have coordinated a category devoted to the country’s finest examples of American Muscle. Each year I decide on a specific theme, and this year I borrowed one from a previous MCACN show. I am sure many of you remember our “Color My World” Invitational display, which featured all makes of muscle in the hottest and wildest colors of the era. Well...this is exactly what you’ll see at the Concours d’Elegance of America on Sunday, July 31. Fifteen of the hottest cars in the hottest colors, and twelve of them have been featured at the MCACN show over the past several years. Of course, you’re likely to see the other three at MCACN this year!
So what will you see? The gorgeous Rally Green ‘69 Z/28 that was unveiled by Larry Christensen and Mike Slaughter last year. Then we have the ‘69 GTO Judge that Tim Schell brought in along with the Cougar Eliminator CJ 428 that Gordon Nelson showed in our Class of ‘70, both joining us from Canada. Our good friends Rick and Peg Campbell will show their incredible Grabber Blue Boss 429, while another long time MCACN supporter, Mark Hassett (and his son Mark) will show their Hurst equipped Yenko Deuce. And speaking of long time MCACN supporters, (and another Father and Son), Len and Lenny Grimsley will show TWO of their ‘cuda’s; the wild Moulin Rouge/Pink stripe ‘70 and the unrestored original ‘71 Hemi ‘cuda that they actually bought at MCACN. Curtis Corr is joining us with his one-off CJ 428 Mustang that was restored by MCACN Official Sponsor SEMO, while John and Vickie Saewert will show the factory sunroof equipped GTX that was restored by another MCACN Sponsor, Troy Angelly Restorations. Of course, if you are a fan of M-code lift-off hood 6-Pack Mopars, you’ll remember Ron Schneider’s gorgeous 69.5 Super Bee, joining us from Colorado. And then we have Jeff Filz joining us with his Big Bad Orange Mark Donahue Javelin. And speaking of that “Color My World” name, it was Jeff who originally suggested it.
Speaking of Colorado, of the remaining three cars that haven’t yet been shown at MCACN, is a 1969 427 COPO Camaro that is fresh from the Level One Shop in Arvada. Can’t wait to see Gary Riley’s latest, as he is always working on great cars and has unveiled several at MCACN, including The Brothers Collection Hurst/Olds convertible and several others! (and yes; Gary will be unveiling several new restorations this year) The other two we hope to see at MCACN; a gorgeous Stage 1 GSX and a super cool 1969 Shelby GT-350 Hertz car, (yes; 1969!). Hopefully a bit of peer pressure from the other participants will get these owners to join us.
I also invited our good friend Ken Nagel to join us for the American Postwar category with his Fuel Injected ‘59 Chevy convertible, a true show-stopper, and J.R. Amantea and his Dad, who will be showing a Triple Diamond winning ‘63 split window Corvette.
The Concours d’Elegance is among the most prestigious Concours events in the world. We will host over 300 of the absolute best of the best ranging from a 1907 Thomas Flyer on up to the newest and rarest Exotic Supercars, including the brand new Ford GT and the best from Ferrari. Bugatti’s and Duesenbergs will also be on the field along with a row of (real) GT40’s and many more than I can list here. Suffice it to say, this truly is one of the finest Concours events in the world, and I am proud to be a part of it. For full information on the show and related events, go to www.concoursusa.org
We will be on hand spreading the word about the upcoming MCACN show with a display tent on the field all day Sunday. Please stop by and see what we have in store for MCACN VIII, as we are geared up for our best show ever!
The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals is the world’s largest all indoor specialty show devoted to Muscle Cars, Dealer-built Supercars and the finest and rarest Corvettes. We will again fill nearly 400,000 square feet of exhibit space at the beautiful Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (suburban Chicago), Illinois, just minutes from the Chicago O’Hare Airport. You will see well over 500 examples of American Muscle, many from private collections rarely, if ever shown. The show will take place Saturday, November 19, from 9 am – 9 pm and Sunday, November 20, from 9 am – 5 pm.
Hope to
see you Sunday
