Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals
Will Be Well Represented at Prestigious Event
In the prestigious world of Concours events, there are three that rise to the top. There is the Pebble Beach Concours in California, (yes; the one we are often compared to!), the Amelia Island Concours in Florida, and the Concours d’Elegance of America in the Detroit area. The Concours d’Elegance of America is celebrating their 40th Annual event this year, and you simply don’t thrive for this long without being a truly outstanding event. Of course, there are more true classics and exotics than you may see anywhere, along with rows of Ferrari’s, Packards and some of the rarest and most sought after collectible cars ever gathered in one place. Among the featured displays this year is a celebration of the Porsche Werks cars. This display alone will make history and that is just one part of the event. The incredible Corvette SR2 you see above, owned by our good friend Irwin Kroiz, will be shown. It was recently restored by the Corvette Repair team and you will also see it at the MCACN show in November.
But then, we are here to talk about Muscle Cars and how this event ties in to the MCACN show. About eight years ago, the Concours folks reached out to me to coordinate the Muscle Car category. Being among the most prestigious events in the world, I jumped on the opportunity. Since then I have become more involved and now assemble a hand-picked group of the best of the best, much like what we do for our special displays at MCACN. Each year I choose a specific theme, and as you can imagine, a majority of the cars I invite are past (or future!) MCACN show participants. This year the theme is “Alternative Muscle” and the lineup is stellar!
So what is “Alternative Muscle?” Allow me to explain; you will see a row of cars that are generally not thought of as Muscle Cars. First off, we have Buick represented with Scott Baum’s 1967 GS 340, Carl Rychlik’s gorgeous ‘70 Stage 1 G.S. and Phillip Roitman’s ‘73 G.S. Stage 1. Olds fans will enjoy Bill Stephenson’s ‘67 W30 442 and Patrick Biases ‘69 Hurst/Olds. These are certainly not your Fathers Oldsmobiles! You know we’ll have Mopar well represented, first with the outrageous 1966 4-door 426 Hemi Dodge Coronet owned by Seth Rhode, then the 1971 Satellite Sebring Plus (383-4-speed) that was just released in our Auto World MCACN die-cast series, then a pair of BIG bodies; the one-off Chrysler 300 Hurst convertible will be joining us from the state of Washington and then the show stopping 1971 Sport Fury GT that was unveiled at our show last year, Restored by MCACN Official Sponsor Magnum Restorations. Ford fans will enjoy seeing Bill Kulenkamp’s subtle ‘71 Torino Brougham with the 429 CJ under the hood while Pontiac enthusiasts will love

Rick Mahoney’s gorgeous ‘73 Super Duty Formula. Just to drive home the Alternative Muscle theme, we have a pair of supercharged Studebakers; Eddie George’s Avanti and Nelson Boves super sleeper Lark. Now if those aren’t “Alternative” enough for you, we have Keith Currie coming in with his 409, 4-speed, power window equipped ‘64 Impala station wagon and our good friend Larry Weymouth representing AMC with his screamin’ 1971 SC/360. Now how’s that for a lineup? Well...if that isn’t enough, we have yet another car joining us for a special display, fresh from a full restoration that is really different. Leigh Scott will join us with a post body 1966 Chevy Biscayne that is a real Tennessee Patrol Car, authentic right down to the working siren and Motorola radio! This is one you will see at MCACN this year, so this is your chance for an advance showing.
Along with the Concours event Sunday, there are a variety of related events all weekend long. This includes a fun Concours d’Lemons, some great seminars including one with several very notable Porsche racers, a Saturday morning Cars and Coffee cruise and much more. The Concours is Sunday, July 29 with gates opening at 10 am, and you can see the entire lineup of weekend events here; www.concoursusa.org. We will have a display set up right in the center of the midway, so look for the MCACN signs and stop by to see us. We have a LOT to tell you about for this years show, so we hope to see you.
Believe me...this show is an absolute must do no matter what type of cars (or motorcycles!) you like. Much like the MCACN show, you will see the best of the best and the rarest of the rare, and many cars from private collections rarely shown to the public.
