Enjoying a Visit To The Incredible Gilmore Car Museum

As you can imagine, in my travels I am fortunate to be able to visit quite a few Car Museums and collections. Recently, Vicki and I ventured out to Hickory Corners, Michigan to catch a seminar at The Gilmore Car Museum presented by Ryan Brutt, the Automotive Archeologist, and Host of the MCACN Barn Finds & Hidden Gems section. Of course, we never need an excuse to visit, as this is among the finest car museums in the world. When you enter to see not just one, but an entire room devoted to some of the rarest Duesenbergs, you cant help but be blown away. Yes...that is what is featured right now.

With a wide variety of theme "rooms" and even entire buildings devoted to specific themes, there really is something for everyone. I was particularly blown away by the new Lincoln building, and I'm not even a Lincoln enthusiast! The cars and the presentation is second to none with an incredible amount of excellent signage, a variety of related artifacts and so much more. It really tells the story of this prestigious marque in an entirely interesting way.

There is just so much to see. In addition to the many cars, motorcycles, gas pumps, bicycles and toys, there is also a complete 1930's Shell Gas Station, the 1941 Blue Moon Diner, a Hood Ornament and Mascot display and even a Disney Magic and More display. Whether you and your family are car geeks or not, the history within these walls is entertaining for everyone.

MCACN 2018 Unveiling Car Owned by Justin Hargraves on display at the Gilmore Car Museum

We have had the honor of hosting a small display for The Gilmore Car Museum at MCACN for the past several years, and representatives from the museum will be joining us again in November. So if you are wondering how this directly relates to our show, let me tell you about their Muscle Car display. They really nailed it in this room, as it is packed with prime examples of American Muscle. And perhaps I'm a bit biased, but allow me to say the MCACN show is well represented! About half of the cars on display have been shown with us in the past. We even saw several cars that were "Officially Unveiled" at MCACN, including Rick Mahoney's 1969 Trans Am convertible, unveiled in 2016 and Justin Hargraves beautiful black '69 GTX unveiled last November. And then you have Dan Jensens GT37, The Streeters '69 CJ Mustang, Lowell Otters, '67 "Prison Car" Shelby GT500, Rick Mahoney's '65 Hemi Belvidere, Larry Weymouths LS6 Chevelle, Larry McDonalds 1974 Hurst Olds and well...you get the idea! Oh...and then there is the Barn Find building. This is worth the price of admission alone, and again, we saw several MCACN alumnus including Norm VerHages AAR 'cuda and Tim Holidays '69 Hurst/Olds. Whew!!

So if you have the off-season car show blues, plan on taking a trip out to The Gilmore Car Museum; you'll be happy that you did. And be sure to talk to the Gilmore reps when they join us November 23-24 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (suburban Chicago) Illinois. For more information on the museum, check out GilmoreCarMuseum.org The displays are constantly changing, so you never know what you will see.
Always Support those who support what we all love.

I also want to say Congrats to Ryan Brutt. His seminar drew a packed house and everyone there clearly enjoyed hearing some of Ryan's adventures. If you ever thought they have all been found, you need to spend some time with Ryan! Check out www.barnfinds.org to follow his adventures and plan on spending some time checking out the Barn Finds and Hidden Gems display at MCACN, when we will again host an entirely new group of these unexpected treasures, like the one you see above. Yes...they are still out there!

The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals is the world's largest all indoor car show specifically devoted to the finest and most sought after examples of American Muscle and the rarest Corvettes. Our show is always the weekend before Thanksgiving, which is November 23-24 this year. We will again fill nearly 400,000 square feet with well over 500 cars that will be joining us from across the country and even outside of the country. Please plan on joining us, and help us spread the word by sharing this and also watching our facebook page, which has show updates nearly every day.
