JOHNNY LIGHTNING TO CELEBRATE 50TH ANNIVERSARY WITH
MCACN SATURDAY NIGHT BANQUET
Once again we step back to celebrate an incredible milestone. The Johnny Lightning brand of 1/64th scale die-cast cars launched in 1969. The Topper Corporation was a huge force in the toy market, and seeing what Mattel did with their Hot Wheels, they stepped in to offer a really slick alternative. With incredible paint, redline tires and some of the fastest little cars you could buy, they introduced an awesome lineup. I still remember the colorful packaging and awesome track sets!
Fast forward, and a guy named Tom Lowe saw an opportunity. Securing the rights to the name and digging to see what else may be out there, he relaunched the Johnny Lightning brand. Starting with replicas of many of the 1969 offerings, these cars were as cool as the originals. It wouldn't be long before he would expand the line to include some amazing replicas of the Muscle Cars we all love with some pretty impressive detailing. To say they nailed it would be an understatement! The line would constantly be expanded and Toms' diligence would lead to a line of cars that is absolutely awesome.
And to make it even better, they would release new cars non stop and still do to this day!
