American Muscle & Drag Cars Featured at Concours d'Elegance of America THIS WEEK!

There are a lot of "Concours" events popping up all across the country, but in reality, there are three that rise to the top; Pebble Beach, Amelia Island and The Concours d'Elegance of America at St. John, formerly known as the Meadowbrook Concours. For quite a few years now, I have been very involved in the Concours of America here in the Detroit area. I started as a member of the Vehicle Selection Committee, coordinating the Muscle Car category, and that grew to much more.

This year I assembled the Class of 1970 group with 15 prime examples of '70 American Muscle, a '70/'71 Transitions group, which "pairs up" eight Muscle Cars that underwent a major re-style, (think Mopar B-Bodies, Mustang and Javelin!) and also a very special Drag Cars group. For Muscle, we are celebrating what many consider the pinnacle year, 1970. As you can imagine, nearly every car invited is a past or future MCACN participant. W-30? check!, LS6; Check!, Hemi and 440-6; absolutely, with a 340 thrown in, Ram Air IV; Yep!, Stage 1? Absolutely!, Cobra Jet, Boss 302 and 429? Yes, Yes and Yes! But that's not all. We also have a special display featuring a pair of original unrestored 1970 gems; the "Black Ghost" Hemi Challenger RT/SE and a stunning Boss 302!

Matching what we have in store for the upcoming MCACN show, November 20-21, we have the 70-71 Transitions display. You'll see Boss 429 and Boss 351 side by side, a pair of Javelins, a Roadrunner next to a GTX and a pair of Chargers. To see how these cars were completely restyled side by side is really neat.

And then...let's talk about our Drag Cars category. Sox & Martin, Herb McCandless, "Dyno" Don Nicholson, Dick Landy, Don Grotheer and more in this group of nine cars that cover the years 1963-1973. And BTW; we will be doing an onsite "fire-up" to make sure everyone on the field knows we're there!

While we love our Muscle, this event features many of the most sought after and rare Full Classics including Duesenberg's, Packard's, Cadillacs and so many more. If you like sports cars, there are prime examples from the 40's on up to an entire ROW of Ferrari Monza's! Supercars are well represented as are some real unexpected treasures. And yes....we have a motorcycle category that chronicles the history of two-wheeled treasures.

While the actual Concours takes place Sunday, July 25, there are a wide variety of activities that start Friday. Hagerty ride and drive, a HUGE Cars and Coffee event Saturday morning, a Road Tour, Concours d'Lemons, (that is really fun!), an art exhibit and oh yeah; I will be part of a Saturday morning seminar along with MCACN Member Colin Comer and our good friend Ken Lingenfelter to talk about 1970 and 1971 Muscle. This will be moderated by Wayne Carini, (who BTW will be joining us again at MCACN!) and security will be checking for tomatoes at the entrance!

Dave Snyder releases new LAX Print. And speaking of the Concours and automotive art...you may have noticed last week the new release from MCACN Official Sponsor David Snyder we featured. Well, Dave and Marion will also be at the Concours with this new one and a variety of others. Be sure to make a point of seeing them and thank them for being Official MCACN Sponsors!

From the CarArt Website: In December of 1964 Shelby American began its move from Venice Avenue to two aircraft hangars at LAX.  One hangar housed the assembly of the production 1965 Shelby GT350. The other was the race shop. By April 1965 production was at a frenzied pace. In his most recent painting “LAX Inside” David depicts building the race cars that changed history. Three GT40s were under final inspection and ready to be sent to France for LeMans practice.  Preparation of the GT350R was underway.  The 427 Cobra was under development. Published from the Original Painting “LAX Inside” has been reproduced as a limited edition of 500 prints and 50 artist proofs printed on high quality acid free stock. And speaking of Official Sponsors: One of our fine family of MCACN Official Sponsors, Hagerty Insurance  recently acquired the Concours d'Elegance of America and the Amelia Island Concours. We certainly look forward to working with them, not only at MCACN but now at the Concours too.

We certainly hope you will join us this weekend. As always, MCACN will be well represented and we will be in the midway with a display spreading the word about the upcoming Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, November 20-21. We are really pumped and will be making up for lost time with our most diverse show to date.

COLLECTOR CAR FRAUD TIP -  JULY

"Don't get wired up"

Unfortunately, fraudsters are always looking for a way to separate car collectors from their money. Instructions to wire money to Sellers' account is a favorite fraud tactic  - as the wired money lands in their account and the Collector has no way to retrieve it. Learn more at the MCACN Collector Car Fraud Seminar brought to you by Bruce Shaw Esquire - famous "motorhead" attorney.
