PREMIER UNVEILINGS KICK OFF MCACN ACTIVITIES
The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals is known for many unique features. Of course, the 500+ prime examples of American Muscle may top the list, but there really is so much more. Among the most popular features are the Premier Unveilings that kick the show into high gear Saturday morning, right after opening at 9 am Saturday. "This year we have 19 Unveilings, and it runs the gamut" said MCACN Managing Member, Bob Ashton. From a Twin Engine Olds Toronado to what may be the wildest interpretation of a Modernized Daytona, this is an incredibly diverse group of cars.
What makes these Unveilings so special is not just the cars, but the stories behind them. Today we'd like to share one that we know is going to be incredibly emotional. You may recognize the name David Sullivan. David has been in so many television shows and movies that you will most likely recognize his face the moment you see him. He currently has several streaming on both Amazon and Netflix, including the series Flaked and Small Town Wisconsin. He has appeared on CSI, New Girl, Boston Legal, Criminal Minds, The Wilds and too many more to list here. But that is just part of the story.
While David has been in the TV/Movie industry for over 20 years, he is a Car Guy. That seed was planted when his father brought home a 1968.5 428 Cobra Jet Torino GT. David remembers rides with his Dad in Texas like it was yesterday. As is often the case, the car would serve as the family daily driver, eventually parked in the "back 40" with plans to one day bring it back to its original glory. Now, this is a special car for many reasons; it is a real 428 CJ, but not the more common fastback style, as it is a Coupe. You know they didn't make very many of those with a Cobra Jet 428 under the hood! So...time goes on, David moves to Hollywood and establishes quite a career. He never forgot about those rides, and recently decided it was time to see his dream turn into reality, and to get his Father back behind the wheel to create some more memories. David met Marty Burke, the "go-to" guy when it comes to Fairlanes, Torino's and Cyclones, who also happens to be one of our MCACN Judges. And did I mention he is coordinating our Better Ideas Ford and Mercury Invitational display this year? So, they discuss what David wants to do and the decision is made to have Billups Classic Cars in Oklahoma do a ground-up full restoration with the goal of Unveiling it to the world and Davids Father at the MCACN show. The car was then inspected by Marty and delivered to Oklahoma, where the Billups team took inventory and dove into the restoration, under the guidance of Marty.
Sadly, Davids Father passed, but the decision was made to complete the restoration to the highest standards in his honor. And that is what they are doing as this is being written. On Saturday morning, November 18, this 68.5 428 Cobra Jet Torino GT will have the cover pulled after the extensive Concours restoration. David has family coming in to witness this event from all across the country, and would love to have you join us. He will be with us all weekend to meet fans and share stories, sign autographs and reminisce about those rides in Dads awesome muscle machine. Please plan on joining us!

A FEW MORE REASONS TO JOIN US: As we count down the days to the show, we want to emphasize that our viability is dependent upon having spectators join us. 2. LIVE Music Saturday Night with REDLINE 7000: Yep...that is indeed Mecum Auctions John Kraman on guitar and vocals up there! This band is all about having fun and with any luck, there may be a "special guest" on drums for a song or two! Saturday at 6:00 pm.
3. SEMINARS and Panel Discussions: We have a stellar lineup. Meet the Future, All About Turbonique, What is a SCHENK Monte Carlo, How a Guy Turned his dream of a BMW 507 into Reality and more. Exact times and additional talks TBA.
4. MEET THE MOVERS AND SHAKERS: No wrestlers, or goofy Reality Show "stars" just real movers and shakers of our hobby. This includes Peter Brock, Chris Jacobs, Natalie Decker, Derek Lemke, Wayne Carini, Bruce Larsen, Chuck Miller and of course, David Sullivan! ALL will be with us Saturday AND Sunday!
5. The Rapid Transit System 'cuda: OK, so this is indeed a car, and one that was, shall we say "elusive" for over 50 years. This is a real opportunity, as the new caretaker rarely (if ever!) shows his cars publicly. See it up close and in person and meet Chuck Miller, the man that built it...and snag a FREE poster.
