Here at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, we like to provide an experience that is fun for all ages. No, you won’t find wrestlers or non automotive TV stars at our show, but you will find a wide variety of interactive things that are geared toward keeping things interesting for everyone, whether you are 6 or 60. Today I’d like to talk about some of the cool things we have in store for the younger folks this year, to encourage you to bring them to the show when we return to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (suburban Chicago), Illinois, November 18-19.
HAGERTY OPERATION IGNITE YOUTH JUDGING; One of the best ways to get the kids interested in our hobby is to give them a behind the scenes look at what we do and why. The Hagerty Youth Judging program is always a hit. Kids get to interact with some of our most fun car owner participants, and ask questions about why they like to show their cars. Several owners allow the kids to sit in their cars, and they open the doors, hood and deck to let them look inside. The Hagerty team leads the program and helps explain the cars and the enthusiasm of the owners. and as if that isn’t enough, they get an Official Tee-Shirt and hat to commemorate being an Official Judge! this is open to all kids from 8-16, whether a spectator or with a participant, and it is totally free. This is an absolute must do for kids that are at the show, and I can tell you that my own Granddaughter Emily had a great time participating last year!

Lucas Leone R/T Foundation Challenger Raffle; Sadly, we lost 12 year old Lucas to a tragic UTV accident. The Leone family is committed to spreading the word about UTV safety and the need for better safety requirements. I had no idea of how many kids are killed or injured on quads and other ATV’s. The Leone family is so committed to getting the word out there that they are raffling a beautiful 2017 Dodge Challenger 392 Hemi Scat Pack Shaker Challenger to help get their message out. Please make a point of stopping by the display on the main aisle, and purchase a ticket to enter to win this car. The winner of the car will be announced right at our show Sunday, so you might be driving home in this car! Please see http://www.lucasleonertfoundation.org for full information. MODEL KIT MAKE AND TAKE; This has been a hit for several years now and this year we expand the program to appeal to more kids. With the support from the folks at Auto World/Round 2, we will have cool model car kits including some of the new Iron Man NASCAR snap kits. So this year kids get a choice, and as always, there is no charge and kids get to take home their model kit. Adult assistance is provided if available.
(Limit one kit per child)
SCAVENGER HUNT; Each year many of our sponsors really step to the window for this! Kids can pick up a search card at our Info both right up front and start the hunt. Stop by the designated Sponsor booths along with several other fun stops, get your card marked and pick up a special free prize at each stop. When you’re done, return to the info booth and get a very special Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals exclusive collectible toy. (cough-cough, think fidget!) Prizes this year include collectible die cast cars, posters and more, and again, this is totally free.
NEW; COLORING CONTEST; This one is geared toward the little ones, although all kids are welcome to join in the fun. Get a coloring sheet in the Model Car/Hot Wheels Kids Fun Zone area and take a rest while the kids have some fun. Remember...all of these activities are fun and we have staff on hand to assist.
HOT WHEELS RACING; In our Kids Fun Zone in the center hall, I’ll have some of my own old school orange Hot Wheels track. Kids get a FREE Hot Wheels car to race the same way we used to when we were kids. I always have a blast setting up my old basic Hot Wheels track with the Grandkids, so show them what we used to do before we had I-pads, the internet and giant TV’s!

MUSCLE BIKE “SHOW WITHIN A SHOW” SPONSORED BY KOOLESTUFF; OK, so this is really for kids of ALL ages. As many of you know, I am a somewhat out of control Muscle Bicycle collector. Several years ago we added this feature just to have some fun. This year we will have over 75 vintage Muscle Bicycles on display, including Schwinn Sting-Rays, Krates and Raleigh Chopppers, Ross Barracuda’s, Sears Spyders and so many more. This is not a competition, it is just about having fun and we will also have related ads and other memorabilia on display.

The future of our hobby depends on getting some younger folks involved. This is really a great hobby with awesome people, so please help us keep the momentum going so that we can produce this show for many years to come!
