Presenting the MCACN High School Reunion Invitational

One of the best parts of producing the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show is having staff and judges that are really into our hobby. So many members of our team live and breathe what we do in so many ways. And that brings us to one of our newest Special Displays.

The Stark Family from Michigan dove right in. Several years ago my good friend Ed Sobczyk told me about a local guy that was restoring a '70 GTX. Now, to say he was just "restoring" this car would be an understatement. Ed told me I really needed to see this car, as the level of detail and the amount of research going into the restoration was quite simply, over the top. And believe me...Ed knows cars. I took a ride to Opie Stark's garage and I was blown away. Opie showed me things he was doing that I had never seen anyone do before, and I have seen a lot of restorations. Things that nobody would ever see were returned to exactly how the factory did it. Of course, only the original and N.O.S. parts were used and the end result blew us all away, garnering top Concours recognition and a whole lot of attention. "Who is this guy?" was a common question.

Of course, recognizing Opie's passion and knowledge, I asked if he would consider getting involved in our judging. I am happy to say, he obliged and is now a key member of our Mopar team. And that's not all; his daughter may have as much knowledge as he has and definitely is just as passionate. Alex Stark showed her own Duster that she and her Dad restored and yep...she was up for joining the team too! Opie and Alex are just one of the Father/Daughter judges on our staff, as they judge right beside D.J. Bushong and his daughter Krystyn. The combined knowledge among these folks is incredible and we are honored to have them as part of the MCACN crew.

So...one day Opie and I were talking about cool display ideas and he mentioned that he still owns the exact car he had from when he was back in high school. And not only that, but a friend of his who was there mentioned that he also had his high school Hot Rod. And that is where it all began.

The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals HIGH SCHOOL REUNION Invitational is a new display this year. We are extending the invitation to those of you who managed to hold on to your Muscle Machine, whether restored or original. The main requirement is that it must be the car, the one that got you into this hobby, (and perhaps a bit of mischief?) from back in the day.

Clayton King 1973 Plymouth Barracuda

Above is a prime example of one that you will see in this special display at MCACN this year. The owner of this '73 Barracuda acquired it when he was just 16 years old in the summer of 1990, paying a mere $800.00. Clayton was getting ready to enter his senior year in high school and really wanted a cool ride that he could also run at the nearby Kentucky Dragway. The racing bug bit him, but he also spent years making improvements to the car. He would take it to cruises and shows and managed to score a few trophies along the way. But the best part is, he somehow managed to hold onto the car for all these years. To this day he enjoys using the car to not only show, but at the track, where he has run a best of 10.73 @ 121 mph. Last year Clayton and his wife joined us as spectators, never even thinking about showing with us, until he heard about this display. We are honored to be able to host Clayton and his wife, who epitomize what the MCACN show is all about; sharing stories and having fun! Be sure to check out their Barracuda and hear the stories.

MCACN VENDORS: Renewal for same space for our returning vendors closes April 1st. At that time, any remaining spots for both Commercial "A" and "B" are assigned on a first paid basis. Commercial "A" always sells out well in advance, so if you are hoping to be in the "big" room let us know asap! As always, we do not allow NON automotive related vendors in the show. If you sell home improvements, are a travel agency, do pull up challenges or other Non Automotive stuff, please don't waste our time!

CAR ENTRY: While the majority of the cars shown with us are personally invited, we do consider additional cars, whether they fit into one of our special or Invitational displays or are a single Judged or Non Judged entry. Cars that are rarely (if ever!) shown are always given top priority and rare and unusual or an interesting story always gets our attention. If you have something that you would like to show, please send good, clear pictures and information to bashton426@gmail.com for consideration or Pre-Approval.
