If you were at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show last year, you
saw the incredible showing of exceptionally significant high performance
Studebakers. We had a Bonneville record holding Avanti welcoming you when
you came into the lobby, and that was just a tease as to what we had
inside. Our good friend Ed George and his family coordinated what may have
been the coolest gathering of high performance supercharged Studeys ever
assembled under one roof. Several national record holders, several first
time shown cars and each and every one of them had a factory installed
supercharger under the hood. Yes...it is true that Studebaker created some
pretty amazing high performance cars way before there was even the thought
of jamming a big engine into a smaller car, ala GTO!
So first off, we want to tell you about the outstanding show and swap that
is happening right now in South Bend, Indiana at the St. Joseph County 4H
Fairgrounds, from May 3-6. Actually it is two shows; the 53rd Annual
International Studebakers Drivers Club meet along with the 36th Annual
Studebaker show and swap. This is one of the most fun events I have ever
been to. Let me just say that Studebaker owners are truly among the most
passionate car people out there and they love to have fun. And as if the
show isn’t enough, you also have to check out the Studebaker National
Museum downtown. This is one of the neatest and most interesting car
museums I have ever been to, and I have been to quite a few. To get the
full information on the show and swap,

So what does this all have to do with MCACN? Well, let me tell you. With
the huge success and excellent response we received from last years
Studebaker Invitational display, Eddie and the gang, with support from the
Studebaker National Museum, will be returning with a whole new group of
supercharged Studebakers. This year we will step back in time with a
display featuring the Hawks. You will see some of the finest and rarest
examples and again, each one is packed with high performance features and
loads of horsepower. Did you know that in 1956 McCullough offered a
supercharger kit for the Golden Hawk? Well it was even easier in 1957 when
the supercharged engine package, rated at 275 horsepower, became a factory
option. Was this the first real muscle car? Some people certainly think
so. Be sure to plan on spending some time talking to Eddie and all of the
owners, as there is an incredible amount of knowledge and enthusiasm. This
very special display will be one for the record books, and we cant wait to
again feature something truly unexpected.
Special Displays;
We are now accepting applications for all aspects of the show. If you have
a prime example of American Muscle or a prime Corvette, now is the time to
submit your app as we are tracking way
ahead of last year. I do have a few “must have” cars on my hit list for
our Class of ‘67 display. This includes Shelby’s and Mustangs, Mercury
Cougars, Olds 442’s, and prime examples of 426 Hemi cars. We need some AMC
representation for Class of ‘67 and Class of ‘72 and I would love to have
a ‘72 LT1 4-speed a/c Corvette in the mix, or better yet, both a hardtop
and a convertible side by side. We are also considering commemorating the
year 1962, so if you have a prime example of ‘62 muscle that you’d like to
show, let me know! We have a few more openings in our Barn Find & Hidden
Gems area, (and what a great mix we have already!) and just a couple more
for our 50th Anniversary First Gen Firebird side, reserved only for the
absolute rarest and best ‘67-‘69 Firebirds. (We are all set on the Camaro
side, and it is going to blow you away!) Would love to have a few more N96
Mopar E-bodies in our Shaker Hood Showdown display, Sponsored by the
Wellborn Muscle Car Museum. Of course,
even if it doesn’t fit in with our special or Invitational displays, if it
is a prime example of American Muscle or a best of the best Corvette, we’d
love to have you join us, especially if it is rarely, if ever shown.
Whether it is restored, an unrestored original or even just dragged out of
the barn, if it has way too much horsepower,
let us know what you have.
The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals is the world’s largest all indoor
specialty show devoted to Muscle Cars, Dealer-built Supercars and
Corvettes. We will again fill nearly 400,000 square feet of exhibit space
with 500+ cars and 200+ automotive (only) related vendor spots, at the beautiful Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in
Rosemont, (suburban Chicago), Illinois, just minutes from the Chicago
O’Hare Airport.
Hope to see you soon!
