REAL DAY 2 Returns to MCACN With New Cars

At the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, we pride ourselves in being leaders, not followers. When we launched the show in 2009, we committed to putting the spotlight on many things that often get lost in the shuffle. Among them are Original and Long Term Owners, cars owned, raced and maintained by ladies, cars owned by younger enthusiasts and something we really love; the REAL Day 2 cars.

We all know that "back in the day" none of us kept our Muscle Machines factory stock. Drive it home from the dealership and slap on some Cragers or (insert your favorite wheels) big, fat tires, air shocks, headers and some smooth sounding mufflers and in some cases, perhaps a hood scoop or sidepipes. This is what REAL Day 2 is all about. If you were at the show last year you were greeted in the lobby by an outrageous '69 Camaro that epitomizes this theme. And that particular car takes things to the next level with a wild multi-color paint job that blew us away.

I am happy to say that when we decided to embrace the Day 2 cars years ago, they instantly became among the most talked about cars in the show. And stepping back to our inception, we also launched our intense Concours standard Day 2 judging, another MCACN exclusive. This holds the cars to the utmost highest standards of the day, with multi page judging sheets that cover the inside, outside and underneath. What makes this different from regular Concours judging is that we allow for period correct modifications, with an emphasis on vintage parts and mods. This also creates the standard for cars like Yenko's, Baldwin-Motions, Mr. Norm's, Nickey's and the many other dealer modified cars of the era. YES...we were the first to acknowledge these cars in a high quality judging format, and today this is among the most popular segments of our show. But remember, judging is never mandatory at our show, as we know that many simply want to show their cars and most importantly, share the stories. And that is why you have the choice (in all categories) to have your car judged or to join us as a Non Judged/Pick Eligible entry. The choice is yours.

So with that being said, we are pleased to announce we will again host a stellar group of REAL Day 2 cars when we return to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (suburban Chicago) Illinois, Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22. You will see a new group of invited cars, including the one above. Of course, if you own a REAL dealer-modified car, as in Nickey, Yenko, Gibb, Mr. Norms or any of the many others, please consider joining us. Among the entrants you will see is the VERY FIRST 1967 Yenko 427 Super Camaro, which is one of our Official Unveiling cars, currently undergoing a full restoration in Colorado at Level One! And that is just the beginning.

We are full speed ahead in preparations for the show. It appears that Illinois is heading in the right direction and if we all do what we need to do, the show will proceed on schedule, November 21-22. Applications for cars and Automotive ONLY vendors are now being accepted. We have well over 300 cars already accepted with capacity for a bit over 500 this year. Commercial "A" vendor space is completely sold out, but we do have limited Commercial "B" space available.

MCACN Free Magazine; We are hard at work writing the features and sorting through pictures for our new 84 page MCACN magazine. We have a few ad spots available, starting at just $100 for a business card size ad, and we will be mailing in mid October. Remember, we desperately need GOOD, CLEAR pictures of cars that are joining us. If you are joining us, send me some nice shots, even if you already did. I only use pictures of cars that will be in the show or have been shown with us, so if you'd like to see your car in our magazine, send your best to bashton426@gmail.com. We also use these as pre-qualifying for our Auto World and Johnny Lightning Cars of MCACN series of Limited Edition die-cast replicas! If you would like to place your ad with us, please e-mail me directly at bashton426@gmail.com. If you want a FREE copy of our magazine, sign up here; If you aren't sure if you are on the mailing list, sign up and our mailing service will sort it out.

CONGRATS GO OUT TO...We salute both the Carlisle Events team for following up their Spring Swap with the Chevy/GM Nationals last weekend and our Title Sponsor, Mecum Auctions for the incredible Eddie Vannoy Collection auction in North Carolina. Carlisle Events is clearly back on track and I can't wait to get out to the huge Chrysler Nationals event, July 10-12. As for the Eddie Vannoy Collection Auction, well, to say it was a smashing success would be a major understatement. I had a blast doing some TV stuff with the Mecum team and Eddie Vannoy, which was truly an honor and it was great to see so many happy and successful bidders go home with some amazing Road Art and some beautiful cars. Of course, we are counting down the days to Dana Mecums 33rd Spring Classic in Indianapolis which has been expanded to NINE full days! This one is now almost as big as Kissimmee, and it is definitely a must-do event.

The entire MCACN team wishes you, your family and friends a safe and fun holiday weekend. Remember that the July 4th holiday, Independence Day, is a celebration of the anniversary of the publication of the Declaration of Independence from Great Britain in 1776. During the second year of the American Revolutionary War (1775–83), representatives from 13 North American colonies of the kingdom of Great Britain voted to declare themselves independent from the crown, forming the United States of America.

Two days after the historic vote, the Declaration of Independence was signed on July 4th, 1776 – and each year since, Americans celebrate, often with friends and family. Hopefully this will give you another good reason to enjoy and share our great hobby by driving something cool, whether new or old, or perhaps something that floats! Thanks go out to HistoryExtra.com for the insightful information.

Please Be Safe, Be Smart and Be Courteous to others...and wave the flag!
