34th Annual Mecum Spring Classic Kicks Off The Season
One of the events I really look forward to every year is Dana Mecums Spring Classic in Indianapolis. This HUGE auction from our Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals Official Title Sponsor Mecum Auctions kicks off the summer season and every year the lineup for American Muscle blows me away. Much like the MCACN show, no matter what brand you lean toward, they have the bases covered. Hemi, LS6, Boss 9, Stage 1, Cobra Jet, big block or small block....it's all there and ready for your bids! And it isn't just Muscle, as the lineup of Corvettes, Exotics, Classics and even incredible Road Art is off the hook. And for yet another once in a lifetime opportunity, check out Parnelli Jones "Big Oly" Bronco along with personal items right from Parnellis own collection, offering another once in a lifetime opportunity.
Last week I was invited to join the Mecum team to tape for an upcoming NBC/SN segment about one of the notable offerings. Our good friend and long time MCACN supporter Tom Lembeck is offering FOUR prime Mopar E-Bodies from his collection in Mecums version of The Class of 1971. These aren't just any old Mopars, as each one is a prime example of the "best of the best" including what may be the most valuable factory built Muscle Car ever to cross an auction block. While any Hemi 'cuda is a sought after collectible, it is the ultra rare convertibles that rise to the top. And at the top of the list is Tommy's Export '71. In addition to being an Export car originally sold to an owner in France, it is also one of just three 4-speeds, and the one and only painted in subtle Winchester Grey. (the other two are B5 Blue, as you have seen at MCACN!). This car has known history dating back to when it was new, and to make it even better, it retains its original sheet-metal along with the original numbers matching drivetrain! That in itself is amazing, as these cars were built to run, and run they did. And speaking of that, I can tell you from personal experience that this one indeed runs, and it runs strong. In fact, Tommy has participated in several road rallies in this exact car, giving owners of Ferraris and Porsches fits! Of course, we have had the honor of hosting this car at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, (thanks Tommy!) and I have had some seat time in it too. (Yes...I love my job!) But that's not all; Tommy is also offering a 440-6 Barrel, 4-speed 'cuda convertible, an Alpine White Hemi 'cuda hardtop and what may be the finest unrestored original Hemi Challenger R/T in existence. And that is just one example of what you will see. The auction kicked off Friday, May 14 and with over 2,500 lots to sell. It goes on for the whole week until the 22nd. We will be set up from Wednesday-Saturday, so look for us to see what we have in store for the upcoming Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show and to pick up your new MCACN magnets.
We are pleased to announce that the state of Illinois has given us the green light, and as I often say, we are full speed ahead to return to the Donald E.Stephens Convention Center Saturday, November 20, and Sunday, November 21. We have the freshest show to date in the works and we are already close to full. Gee, I wondered exactly why the owner “Believes” the mileage is correct
rather than the owner “knows” the mileage is correct?
The reason is simple – if he states he believes rather than he knows –
he is held to a significantly lower standard of truth in his statements if a problem arises.
Moral of the story – believe half of what you read!
