Oldsmobile Homecoming, EyesOn Design and Hot Rod Power Tour...
And that is just a few of the awesome car events happening this week. In fact, as you read this, Ian and I are literally on the road doing the entire "Long Haul" for the Hot Rod Power Tour. This will be my 9th Long Haul, (8th time with the Hornet!) and Ian's second. Those who know us know that last year was Ian's first time, after years of us planning on doing it together. As is often the case, life interrupts, but last year he decided enough was enough and we did it together. Of course, since I signed over the title to the Hornet a few years ago to him, he decided to do it right with a complete drivetrain rebuild, front to back, top to bottom. My good friends (and Master Mechanics!) Ed and Brian Sobczyk dove in and stripped the 390 block down to nothing to send it out. Now sporting new rods, aluminum heads, new headers and exhaust, a rebuilt trans and well..you get the idea! Our friends at Official MCACN Sponsor Summit hooked us up (Thanks Tommy D!) and after several delays waiting for other parts, (ever try to find a flex plate for a 390 backed by a Mopar 727 trans?) I am happy to say this baby runs great. It was pretty peppy before the long overdue rebuild, but now it actually borders on being scary, but fully drivable. We will be adding the Holley Sniper EFI when we get back, as we found out the new gas tank will require some custom fabrication to work. That will go out to Matt at Nickey Performance!
We left from the Detroit area to first stop in Bowling Green, Kentucky and a visit to the National Corvette Museum, (shout out to Adam and the crew at NCM Insurance, another Official MCACN Sponsor!) then on to Memphis for the first official stop. From Memphis we head to Nashvile on Tuesday. Wednesday we head to Hoover, Alabama, with a stop at the Wellborn Muscle Car Museum to see Tim and Pam, (gotta love our Sponsors!) and then over to Pensacola, Florida Thursday. Friday we will hit Atlanta to wrap up the tour. And then...back home!
We will be spreading the word about the upcoming Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show, November 19-20, and boy do we have a LOT going on! Look for us in the Hornet and we will hook you up with some MCACN stickers and magnets!

Oldsmobile Homecoming. Meanwhile in Lansing, Michigan, Vicki will be set up at the Oldsmobile Homecoming, Saturday, June 18. This is the largest ALL Oldsmobile show and it is always a good one. Our good friend and MCACN Staff Member Jeff Stolowski is breaking out his REAL 1970 Indy Pace Car that you saw at MCACN several years ago. I hear Jeff is also cleaning out his shop and will have some awesome parts. Be sure to see us in the Swap area and say Hello to Vicki and Jeff. Check out www.reolds.org for more information. Oh...and Vicki will have a limited amount of our Official Johnny Lightning and Auto World 1/64th scale cars available, including BOTH colors of the '70 442!

EyesOn Design: Another absolutely awesome event that returns on Fathers Day, Sunday, June 19! Held on the beautiful grounds of the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, this beautiful Concours style event is another Must See event. This is a benefit for the Detroit Institute of Ophthalmology, an incredibly worthy cause. Everything from full classics to megabuck Supercars to Muscle Machines and more, with a central theme revolving around the design aspect and this year, Race Cars. I really love this event and as past Chairman and member of the Vehicle Selection Committee, I highly recommend attending. To learn more about it, go to www.eyesondesign.org. Lots of neat related activities prior to the show too, including a Design Symposium at the GM Heritage Collection and a black-tie dinner!
