Announcing The MCACN Chevrolet L89 Invitational

Presented by Corvette Mike

Of course, we all know about the mighty Chevy 427 L88's that were introduced as a factory option in 1967, but are you familiar with the 427 L89? While perhaps not quite as wild as the race-ready L88's, they were certainly among the hottest offerings, especially for those who wanted a more streetable alternative.

First offered as an option in '67 for the Corvette, checking the L89 box was actually an upgrade for the L71 427/435 triple carb engine. The aluminum heads are said to cut about 75 pounds off the weight, giving not only more overall performance, but also enhancing the handling. While they had the same factory rating of 435 horsepower, it is believed with the proper tuning that number was significantly higher. The L89 option remained on the option list for the Corvette for three model years, ('67-69) and today they are among the most sought after 427 Corvettes ever built. But wait...there's more!

From late 1968-early 1970, the L89 would be offered in other models. A handful of Camaro's, Chevelles and even an El Camino have surfaced and have been documented as "real" and we are pleased to put the spotlight on not only the Corvettes, but the other factory L89 equipped Muscle Machines too.

Our good friend Corvette Mike Vietro has stepped up to be our Official Sponsor of this very special gathering, and of course, he will be joining us with several exceptional examples. Perhaps you remember the gorgeous  Marina Blue '67 L89 Corvette that Mike showed with us in our Military Appreciation display? Well that one went on to smash the record at the Mecum Kissimmee auction last January where it sold for $1,705,000.00!

"Often called the L88 for the street. Unlike the race focused L88, the L89 could be ordered with a radio and heater, making it a high performance machine with street friendly comforts" Mike stated. And being one of a mere 16 built, adding the MCACN Triple Diamond award along with Bloomington Gold certification and an NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence award certainly helped!

Coordinated by Jonathan Herrick, who will be showing his own '69 L89 Corvette as seen above, you will see not only Corvettes. So just imagine an entire block of these rarities all lined up, with Corvette Mike right in the middle. Now that's a sight to behold!

Special Thanks go out to Corvette Mike and his team along with Jonanthan Herrick. With these guys on board (and of course, the awesome owners of the cars you'll see) you know this is going to be a hot-spot when we return to the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, (SUBURBAN Chicago area), Illinois, Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22.

We will again present a fresh and exciting show that features the best of the best, the rarest of the rare and (the best part!) the owners that love to share their stories. The Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals is a show unlike any other. Don't just believe this...ask those who join us year after year from across the country, Canada and even as far away as Australia, Germany, the UK, Japan and other countries!

If you own a REAL L89 Chevrolet, (with verifiable documentation) we would love to have you join us. Whether fully restored, lovingly preserved or even a bit "rough around the edges" we'd love to see it. Let's make this gathering another for the record books. For consideration, send your information along with photos and docs to Jonathan here: https://shorturl.at/ChWvS
